Mark Spray was born in Derbyshire (1973) and moved to west Cornwall in 2000.
He was a student at Manchester Metropolitan University (1992-1995) and Goldsmiths College, London (1998-1999). He worked for a number of years as a sculptural assistant to Jan Niedojadlo, followed by time in Art Education.
He is now a dedicated artist living and working in the Land’s End area of Cornwall. Landscapes that have20inspired his work included Cornwall, Dartmoor, Dorset, Scotland and parts of his native Derbyshire.
Mark spray’s work develops within projects, producing a series of paintings along a particular theme- The moorland and strata series, the ‘Unearth’ series, inspired by the words of American Poet Paul Auster. ‘I’ll invite the poets’ in which each individual painting and drawing was inspired by a particular line of poetry an inspired collection of work bases on an obscure valley near Land’s End. ‘ Weathering’ project linking the Tor’s of Dartmoor to the Greek myth of Prometheus on his crag. Limited edition book was published to accompany the exhibition.
To date mark has had four solo exhibitions with The Great Atlantic Galleries. He has exhibited paintings in group shows around the country including London, Hampshire, Surrey, Shrewsbury, York and now Dorset. |
