English Eccentricities 1st March 2010
A brand new collection of 20 Social Stereotype prints featuring 2 Deluxe prints, hand-embellished by Sue. It is with a keen eye and a quick wit that Sue Macartney-Snape makes her very English observations. The subtle removal of a small bound drawing book from her bag or pocket would be a signal to the astute passer by. Its withdrawal indicates that she may have noticed an unusual expression, or an amusing vignette - and is about to record it with well-pointed precision. Those glaringly obvious foibles which we and our contemporaries try to hide are presented by Sue in typically characteristic humour. She hones in on that which makes our country the uniquely quirky place it is. Rushing about our day to day lives, we may notice the happy-go-lucky lady cyclist, dog in basket, off to the church luncheon. Indeed, we may come home to a dear husband or wife, snoring gently in their favourite chair, cat on lap and dogs sprawled around feet. Sue reopens our eyes to these sights and allows us to rediscover the quintessential comedy to be found on our very doorstep. It is Sue’s particular gift that she is able to gently tease us with her observations, lending her very able hands to reveal the hideous gloriousness of our English Eccentricities.

Spring Art Event at Floren Gallery!
This Spring, Floren Gallery will start the year with a splash, introducing our stable of artists who we will be working with throughout the coming months. These include Peter Wileman, who is the current president of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. (see more…)
At Floren, we are honoured to present the work of Peter Wileman. His large-scale compositions have a painterly quality derived from the apparent vigor of the brushstrokes, and give the impression of spontaneous creativity. Peter often explores the effects of light on his subject; seeking atmosphere through light and colour, he works in varying degrees of abstraction.
Peter's work has been recognised with various awards including the Frank Herring award in 2000 and the Cornelissen Prize in 2003 for outstanding work. In 2006 he was awarded 'The Clerc Fowle' gold medal for the most outstanding group of paintings. Awarded the DAS Prize at the Mall Galleries, London in 2007 for a work of distinction, Peter's paintings can be found in private collections worldwide and have been shown on television. His views of Venice are currently in the ‘floating gallery’ on the new P&O Liner, 'The Ventura.'
Peter has exhibited regularly at a number of prestigious art venues including the Royal Society of Marine Artists, the New English Art Club and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, of which he is now President.
Also showing in the gallery during this introductory exhibition: Peter Kuttner, Brian Jull, Rick Garland, Gerald Green, Stephen Foster, Tina Morgan, Charlotte Cornish, and Dominic Harris.
